The program will discuss EMDR Therapy utilized with those suffering with complex disorders such as Complex PTSD, Substance Abuse, Eating Disorders, Dissociative Disorders, Personality Disorders, Self-Harm behaviors, and Chronic Suicidality. The program will provide guidance in assessment, case conceptualization and treatment planning for mixed presentations and co-occurring issues. The training will equip you to organize symptom presentations while treating defenses with adaptations of the EMDR protocol that exceeds beyond memory focused work. Case examples help demonstrate to clinicians how to apply various EMDR tools to defensive and dissociative patterns consistent with complex disorders.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:

Understand the nature of Complex Disorders and how they relate to trauma processing with EMDR Psychotherapy
- Apply techniques to appropriately prepare a client with a complex disorder for EMDR in a way that reduces risk of patient harm
- Demonstrate understanding regarding case conceptualization, diagnosing, treatment planning and target sequencing for clients with complex disorders, including when co-occurring disorders exist

Prerequisites:​

Participants are only eligible to participate in this training if you are a licensed professional able to practice psychotherapy and have completed an EMDRIA Approved EMDR Basic Training. Participants will be required to submit proof that they have completed their EMDR Basic Training prior to this training's start date.​

Meet the Trainer
Dr. Lauren Kiser, owner and founder of LK Institute, is extremely passionate about the results clients experience with EMDR Psychotherapy. In fact, her belief in EMDR was the driving force behind her becoming a trainer and developing LK Institute. Lauren has years of leadership experience in substance use and eating disorder treatment programs at all levels of care. She served as the lead research assistant in a Correctional and Forensic Research laboratory where she studied behavioral patterns of offenders with severe and persistent mental illness. Lauren has presented at the EMDRIA annual conference and provides consultation to therapists all over the world. She is energized by equipping therapists to feel confident in their skill set and is known for being an effective teacher. Lauren completed her doctorate degree researching the development of counselor competency. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Supervisor, EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Trainer, and an Adult Complex PTSD & Dissociation Specialist.
